Faraday Future, the billion-dollar Chinese startup that showed of the single-passenger FFZERO1 concept vehicle at CES2016, has broken ground on its new factory in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The ultra-modern steel & glass factory is being built on a 900 acre plot, and is expected to eventually employ 4,500 workers.
As expected for a high-tech startup, the new automotive manufacturing plant will feature all the latest bells and whistles, including robot greeters, video walls, sustainable energy design, and heavy use of automated manufacturing technologies.
Specific vehicle designs are still mostly a matter of speculation, although Faraday Future has described their concept as “intelligent” electric vehicles, with some emphasis on “connected” technologies. Their basic structural design, called Variable Platform Architecture (VPA), will allow vehicles of different types, weights, efficiency, range & speed to be produced from a single basic design.
The new facility’s official ground breaking ceremony took place on April 13th, and construction is scheduled to begin soon.
